Our grant review committee involves members of the GACF Board of Trustees, the Youth Advisory Councils, the Advisory Committees of the Lakeview and Montcalm Panhandle Community Funds and the Meijer Children's Health Care Fund. These Advisory Committees seek final approval from The Greenville Area Community Foundation Board of Trustees.
Applications are studied carefully and prioritized according to community needs, fund purpose and youth needs assessments, then acted upon according to priority status and availability of funds. Every effort is made to work with applicants to make their efforts as successful as possible. Applicants can direct their applications to the GACF, the youth groups, the Lakeview / Montcalm Panhandle Funds or specific field of interest funds for consideration as long as the requests are unique to the fund's priorities. Fields of interest include but are not limited to literacy, education and health care.
Grant Making Priorities ...
The Unrestricted Fund of the Greenville Area Community Foundation exists to help fulfill our community's needs in the areas of health, culture, education, environment, recreation, and community development. Grants from this fund reflect the variety and scope of the interests, needs and opportunities that exist in our community. If you have a proposed program that benefits our community in these areas, we would encourage you to submit your application.
GACF qualifying grant applications usually exhibit the following characteristics:
- Projects that increase citizen commitment to meeting community needs through involvement in the development and implementation of solutions.
- Projects that develop self-reliance and/or eliminate dependency.
- Projects that avoid duplication of services and encourage cooperation within the community.
- Projects that will become self-sustaining without requiring ongoing GACF financial support.
- Projects that address prevention as well as treatment.
What will typically not be funded ... but could be considered?
- General operating support, specifically on a year to year basis
- Endowments outside of the GACF
- Annual fund-raising
- Sectarian religious programs
- Projects, outside the geographic service area of the Greenville Area Community Foundation, that do not provide a major benefit to the local community.
Greenville Youth Advisory Council Grants ...
